“The objective of the programme is to equip young people with knowledge, skills, and attitudes for digital or online work to earn an income from gigs and freelancing,” a notice stated on Monday.
Applicants must be Kenyan citizens aged 18-35 years, and proficient in computer use.
This comes as President William Ruto continues to encourage the youth to leverage technology to earn a living.
On February 5, Ruto announced that he had signed off on a new plan to build ICT hubs in every ward via the Constituency Development Fund, for the benefit of young people keen on opportunities in the digital world.
“I want us to understand that the challenge of unemployment needs a deliberate programme -an intentional programme of creating jobs. That is why we need housing and digital jobs and are in bilateral labour agreements to export our labour to streamline our economy. That is how we are going to drive poverty out of our country,” he said.
Broadcast and Telecommunications Principal Secretary Edward Kisiang'ani said the Kenya Kwanza government has created 390,000 digital jobs since taking over in September 2022.
He noted 1,210 have been taken up across the country, with some young Kenyans already enjoying the rewards of setting up businesses.
"Those who started early are making good money. I know of a young man in Bungoma who is making Sh2 million a year. Most of them are working with US companies,” he said.
